The Biden administration reportedly hopes that Katherine Tai, its nominee for United States Trade Representative, will help bridge the      Democratic Party’s varying views on trade, as well as help to restore alliances strained under the Trump administration. She would likely take charge of decisions regarding the tariffs imposed on foreign products by the previous administration. In a statement for her Senate confirmation hearing, she indicated that her first priority would be to help American communities emerge from the pandemic and economic crisis, followed by efforts to enforce the terms of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, rebuild international alliances, and address China’s unfair trade practices.
