Vietnam to Raise Alcohol Taxes to 90% by 2031

On 14 June 2025, Vietnam’s National Assembly approved revisions to its Law on Special Consumption Tax. The new legislation, set to take effect on 1 January 2026, introduces a gradual increase in tax rates on alcoholic beverages.
For beverages with an Alcohol by Volume (ABV) of 20% or higher, the tax rate will rise by 5% annually—reaching 70% in 2027 and 90% by 2031. Alcoholic beverages with an ABV below 20% will see their tax rate increase to 60% by 2031.
