On April 28th 2025, Chair of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committeee James Comer requested documents and communications from the United States Department of Health and Human Services on how alcohol guidelines were developed for 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, set for release by year’s end. The Committee raised concerns over a study by the Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking, stating its creation outside the standard process threatens transparency and scientific integrity. Lawmakers also stressed the guidelines must rely on sound science, reflect congressional intent, and use public funds responsibly.
