UK and India Sign Strategic Trade Pact: Tariffs on Whisky to Be Halved Immediately
- undefined
The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and India was signed on 24 July 2025, during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to London. The agreement will not come into force until it has been ratified by the British Parliament and receives further procedural approvals in both countries, which are reportedly expected sometime in 2026.
Import tariffs on whisky entering the Indian market will be immediately reduced from 150% to 75%, with a gradual decrease to 40% over the next ten years.
