On October 6, 2025, the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) released a report showing that U.S. distilled spirits exports fell by 9% year over year in the second quarter of 2025. DISCUS highlighted that “the declines were particularly pronounced in key destination markets,” including Canada, the European Union, Japan, and the United Kingdom, which together account for 70% of total export value.
DISCUS President and CEO Chris Swonger emphasized “growing concern that international consumers are increasingly opting for locally produced spirits or imports from countries other than the United States, signaling a gradual shift away from the heritage brands of major American spirits.”
