Saskatchewan has become the second Canadian province to lift its ban on alcohol imports from the United States. The Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority (SLGA) announced the move on 10 June 2025. It said the change would allow it to sell existing U.S. inventories and resume new orders.
The decision follows a similar step taken earlier by Alberta. That province had also reversed its restrictions, allowing privately-owned liquor stores to purchase American alcohol through the provincial system.
Meanwhile, two other provinces—Nova Scotia and Ontario—have confirmed they will maintain their bans. Ontario’s premier stated that he would not reconsider until U.S. tariffs are lifted, citing the economic significance of bourbon in states like Kentucky.
The restrictions have already had a visible impact. In April, wine imports from the United States to Canada dropped by 93%.
