On 10 October 2025, Malaysia’s Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Anwar Ibrahim, presented the 2026 national budget document to Parliament, announcing that:
“To reduce access to alcoholic beverages and promote a healthier lifestyle, the government has decided to increase the excise duty rate on alcoholic products by 10%, effective 1 November 2025.”
“The additional revenue collected from tobacco and alcoholic products will be allocated to the Ministry of Health to fund, among other initiatives, the MOH Lung Health Initiative and treatments for diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.”
