As of 01 August 2023, the United Kingdom will begin taxing all alcohol beverages based on their alcohol by volume, replacing its current system that consists of four separate taxes covering beer, cider, spirits, and wine.
Simon Stannard, director of policy at the Wine and Spirits Trade Association, said the new taxes will “only further fuel inflation,” causing “more misery” for consumers and damaging businesses “still trying to recover from the pandemic.”
