Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has extended the public consultation period until 16 July 2025 for the draft regulation titled “TGK Communiqué on Amendments to the Communiqué on Aromatized Wine, Aromatized Wine-Based Beverages and Aromatized Wine Cocktails”
(Communiqué No. 2022/5), which has been updated. The Ministry explained that this legislation was prepared in alignment with European Parliament and Council Regulation (EU) No. 251/2014 of 26 February 2014, concerning the definition, description, presentation, labeling, and protection of
geographical indications for aromatized wine products. It was noted that the regulation is set to enter into force on 24 October 2025, with a transitional period lasting until 30 June 2026.
The draft regulation outlines the appropriate techniques and hygiene requirements that must be observed in the production, preparation, processing, transportation, storage, and marketing of aromatized wine products. The Ministry also stated that the legislation aims to ensure the protection
of geographical indications and traditional names associated with these products. Among the main provisions, it was indicated that the regulation covers product characteristics; food additives; flavorings and food ingredients with flavoring properties; enzymes; contaminants; pesticide and veterinary drug residues; hygiene standards; packaging and labeling; transportation and storage; sampling and analysis methods; as well as administrative sanctions.
The extension of the public consultation period was justified as necessary to allow all interested parties more time to thoroughly review the proposed amendments and submit detailed feedback before the regulation comes into effect. The Ministry emphasized that the additional time would facilitate a comprehensive examination of the updated provisions and contribute to a transparent and inclusive regulatory process.
