Ireland Considers Delaying Alcohol Cancer Warning Labels Amid Trade Pressures
- undefined
Ireland may postpone the introduction of mandatory cancer warning labels on alcoholic beverages, citing growing concerns over the impact of new trade conditions. On 21 June 2025, Deputy John Clendennen informed Parliament that Deputy Prime Minister Simon Harris expressed support for a temporary delay, highlighting the strain already placed on businesses facing tariffs and a significantly changed trade environment.
Speaking at a press conference on 25 June, Harris described the proposed postponement as “a brief breather” aimed at safeguarding jobs and supporting Irish industry. He added that any delay would last less than five years.
