Singapore has officially recognized the geographical indication of the Prosecco Doc - a decision that closes a path undertaken in 2019 by the Consortium of the same name to obtain protection and trademark protection in light of the new regulations on the registration of geographical indications.
A long and tortuous affair triggered in particular by the opposition of Australian wine producers: the application submitted by the Consortium to register the Prosecco Doc, in fact, was originally accepted by the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos), only to be shattered by the opposition of Australian Grape and Wine Inc. (Agwi), an organization that precisely represents producers from Down Under.
