Based on an interpretative note from the Romanian Ministry to the enforcement authority, in early 2019, the Romanian Authority for Consumer Protection introduced a new requirement which provides that all front-of-pack information of food and drink products be provided in Romanian, except trademarks and slogans registered as trademarks.
No advance notice or transition period has been given to the industry and some food and drink products have been temporarily removed from the shelves in Romanian supermarkets until new, fully translated labels were made available. Some food and drink companies have apparently also seen certain products delisted.
